Clapotis for Me!
Knitting Project number ?!@$… The Clapotis (clap-oh-tee). I will come back later and fill in the backstory of how I got to be where I am now with Clapotis. But this entry is to post pictures of the yarn I am currently using. It is Henry’s Attic Andromeda (silk/wool blend). This summer I bought a pound of it in its natural color (5 skeins). Then my mom, being the crafty dying lady that she is, helped me dye. Now I am an impatient person by nature, but mom insisted that I have a plan. ARGH! So she pulled out a big folder she had of magazine pages and old calendar pictures, etc for “inspiration” (for those that know my mother, the fact that she has such a folder is not a surprise… the woman keeps everything). I wanted to wear my Clapotis around Chicago in the fall/winter. So here is the photo I picked as my inspiration:

So then I went through her booklet of dyed pieces of wool to pick out colors. Then we had to do some math and take our best SWAG at how much liquid dye we’d need to make and then mix it up. Then came time to dye the yarn. I felt like such an artist painting it all on. I laid out my 3 skeins in parallel and painted them (almost) exactly the same way so that I wouldn’t have obvious breaks in colorways in my Clapotis. Here is a scan of the resulting yarn:

I LOVE IT! I need to take a picture of what I have knitted so far. But it is sort of tweedy looking as opposed to bands or stripes of color. Which is what I wanted. Yippee!

Update:
Here is a picture of my Clapotis so far. It looks more yellow in this picture than it really is. I need to get it in natural light for the real colors:

And here is a close-up:
