The socks (I know… you’re jealous)
Mom came to visit a few weekends ago and brought with her my promised pair of socks! These aren’t just any socks. These are socks hand knit by her. Not only were they hand knit… she spun and dyed the wool. I think that is as far back as it goes and there was no shearing of sheep that she was involved with! I wore them to meet some friends for lunch and had to show them off… and the man at the next table said “wow, those are nice socks!” Anyway, here are the socks!

And close up:

Here is what she told me about them: “It is an entrelac technique on the cuff. The pattern then calls for fair isle 2 color patterns down the foot, but I made mine and yours with a continuation of one of the yarns and did not use fair isle patterns. For someone who knits socks, it would not be a problem figuring out how to make them.”

I’ve been trying to think of an analogy for how cheerful those socks are, and I have failed. So I’ll just be the second person on this post to say “wow, those are nice socks!” I probably wouldn’t have been nearly as cold and cranky when I lived in Minnesota with socks like those.
