Tex Mex in Evanston

We went to That Little Mexican Cafe for dinner last night. Figuring we’d see how tex mex was done in Evanston. Jeremy had fajitas and I had gorditas. Yeah, not so good! It was WAY expensive ($17 for fajitas that were half the size of what you get in Austin). The one cool looking thing was if you ordered an appetizer of guacamole ($7) they bring this little cart out to your table and grind up fresh avocados and all the ingredients into a stone bowl. We didn’t order it but saw it being done.

Then we decided to go to a movie. At the one movie theater in town. Gee, there must not be much for anyone to do in Evanston on a Friday night! The place was SO crowded. And we must be getting old cuz this annoyed us. We saw the Bourne Supremacy. Good flick. And always nice to stare at Matt Damon - hottee! And we were surprised at how little a role Julia Stiles had… she was on the screen maybe a total of 10 minutes the entire film.

Anyway, it was our first night out in Evanston really. And as a result I’ve decided to start learning how to cook better. This town is so freakin expensive and we haven’t found anything that outstanding. I miss my Jason’s Deli and Rudy’s as good stand-bys. Sniff.

I am sad to report that Chili’s has better fajita’s than this place did. Sigh.

Recently I had some nachos in the northeast. I suppose after 6 years in Texas I forgot that nachos are not only bad outside of the southwest, they’re disgusting. Essentially, they are tostitos chips with a jar of salsa and “nacho cheese”. “Nacho cheese” being some processed cheese varient, sort of a goopy melted velveeta or something you would get out of a spray can. Gross. Who came up with this? Who decided that instead of melting normal cheeses everyone would use this disgusting processed faux-cheese. I watched my friends eating it, they were totally oblivious to the fact that it was disgusting and they couldn’t understand why I wouldn’t have any.

Anyway, my point is I feel your pain.
